A month ago, I opened by 3D animation book and began to study Maya again. A robust software behind most of my favorite films and video games. Taking a more humbled approach, I avoided making the same mistakes in Maya as I have before. Attempting to study and learn EVERYTHING about Maya would wear me out and send me back to drawing board. This time, I focused only on animation and none of the other features. I only had to apply what I already know about animation through a free rigged character, the timeline, and the graph editor. I was able to understand Maya’s mechanics a lot better than I expected. The tutorials from my ‘how to cheat in maya’ book have helped me a great deal. And my friends from life drawing class have offered guidance and feedback when I need it. I still have a very long way to go. Here are a couple of videos of my progress so far. I have a plan to learn the software and build a satisfying portfolio. More improvements to come in future “Level” posts.
